Member Service Recognition Policy

Purpose

To recognise length of membership and outstanding service to Tour Guides Australia


Certificate of Service


To recognise Professional Guides for length of service as a member of TGA , and also as a committee member


Policy

  • Certificates of service are to be issued to current Professional Guides who have held continuous TGA Membership for 10 years, and also for each additional 10 years of continuous membership

  • Certificates of Service are to be issued to Committee Members who have served 5 years, and for each 5 additional years of as committee members

  • Certificates are to be presented at the AGM.


Outstanding Service Certificate


For extended service of a meritorious nature, or outstanding actions or innovations in relation to TGA, administrative, leadership or exemplary performance of a specific difficult project or task.


Policy

  • Nominations are to be submitted by a Full member using the attached form

  • The nomination statement must contain comprehensive information on the service or achievement for which the nomination is being made. A list of positions held over a number of years is not sufficient. It is important that all details requested be provided and that the nomination be accompanied by at least two referee statements that comment on the nominee’s service.

  • All nominations are strictly confidential and the information provided will be used only to assist in considering the merits of the nomination.

  • The person being nominated should not be approached for information or advised of his or her nomination

  • All nominations will be considered by the Membership Officer and the Secretary

  •  If supported, the nomination is to be tabled by the Secretary at a Management Committee meeting

  • The Management Committee  will approve/not approve the nomination.


Criteria

  • 10+ years on Management Committee, including (5+ years) as a member of the TGA Executive, in a non executive role or portfolio e.g. Membership Officer, Newsletter Coordinator, Sub committee chair, OR

  • Management of a significant project to enhance TGA, OR

  • other outstanding service worthy of special recognition.


Presentation

This award may be presented at an AGM or other  suitable function determined by the Management Committee 



Life Membership


Policy

  • TGA members with an aggregate dedicated service of not less than 15 years may be nominated for TGA Life Membership.

  • Life Membership may be awarded at any time after the qualifying service and is not linked necessarily with that member’s retirement or resignation from TGA

  • Nominations are to be submitted by a Full member using the attached form

  •  The nomination statement must contain comprehensive information on the service or achievement for which the nomination is being made. A list of positions held over a number of years is not sufficient. It is important that all details requested be provided and that the nomination be accompanied by at least two referee statements that comment on the nominee’s service.

  • All nominations are strictly confidential and the information provided will be used only to assist in considering the merits of the nomination.

  •  If supported, the nomination is to be tabled by the Secretary at a Management Committee meeting

  • The Management Committee  will approve/not approve the nomination.

  • TGA Life Members are Associate members, and receive Member Benefits as determined by TGA. As Associate members, TGA Life Members are not eligible to vote at AGMs or stand for committee positions  To retain these rights, a TGA Life Member must continue to be a Full Member (Professional Guide). The Management Committee may approve honorary TGA Full membership on a year by year basis for Life Members in circumstances whether the Life Member continues to be an active member of TGA

  • TGA retains the right to revoke  a Life Membership if circumstances require 


Criteria

The key elements that will be taken into account in awarding Life Membership are:

  • an ongoing commitment to TGA over 15+ years; 

  • served a minimum of 10 years in specific roles that contribute to the benefit of TGA. These roles may include service to the Committee, fundraising, promotional role, volunteering, mentoring, assistance with new members, social functions, development activities, maintenance activities.

  • represented TGA with distinction in the broader community and various governing bodies.

  • commitment that does not seek personal reward; AND

  • a high level of recognition from within TGA of the nominee’s work over a number of years.
