We kick off with an interview with a new Affiliate Member and recent graduate of the Tour Guide Fundamentals course - Libby Ledwidge.

What initially drew you to tour guiding and how has your passion evolved over time?

As a lifelong traveller, I thrive on the energy of other travellers and am channeling this into guiding. Warm welcomes and local knowledge add value to every trip and I love to see people happy.

Can you share a pivotal moment that influenced your journey in tour guiding?

Finding and participating in the TGA Microcredentials course really helped inspire me and give me fresh confidence to pursue tour guiding as a career.

What is the biggest challenge you've encountered along the way, and how did you overcome it?

My biggest challenge was a complete alteration in an itinerary at the last minute. I have learnt to keep a flexible mindset and realise that things do not always go to plan. Have a Plan B!

How do you stay inspired and motivated in your pursuit of tour guiding?

I continue to learn about places of interest for overseas travellers and have revisited many local sights to see them through "fresh" eyes.  Also, I network with others who are as passionate about tourism as I am.

What one piece of advice would you give to someone who is just starting out in tour guiding?

Shadow some tours with an experienced guide and build your confidence by doing tours, even with family or friends as practice! Then give it your best shot!

Favourite holiday destination in Australia?

Sapphire Coast NSW, due to stunning coastline, whale watching and national parks.

Favourite holiday destination overseas?

Canada - Spectacular mountains and scenery, friendly locals and good food.

What’s your go-to recommendation for an overseas visitor as the must-do thing in your home state?

Healesville Sanctuary. Our native animals are so unique and interesting and the Sanctuary does a brilliant job showcasing them. Visitors also gain a sense of the Australian bush and local countryside on this day trip.
